Karen Hairston
Karen is a 9-year member of Rotary. This is Karen’s second term as president of the Rotary Club of Windermere. She joined Rotary in El Paso, Texas and transferred her membership to the Windermere club in 2017. Karen began her career as a First-Grade teacher in Dallas, Texas and over her 37 years’ experience filled several administrative positions in the Texas and Florida school systems. Her favorite job was Director of HR for the Richardson Independent School District, a suburb of Dallas, TX.
Karen holds a MEd in educational leadership from Texas Woman’s University. She has been married to Don since 1970 and they have two daughters who reside in Dallas, Tx and Orlando. She is the proud grandmother of 3 grandchildren who live here in Orlando.
Karen says, “It is an honor and privilege to serve as the president of the Rotary Club of Windermere. We are a group of neighbors with a heart for service here in our community, our district and in the world. We want to do our part to make a difference by helping to eliminate local food insecurities, engaging and rewarding local youth through essay contests, leadership camps and scholarships and contributing to Rotary Plus to completely eliminate polio worldwide. These are just a few of our service projects. Rotary’s motto is “Service Above Self” and we are a group of likeminded friends striving to be active and have fun as we work together with that goal in mind. “
